Dutch Secure Documents Enhanced with Innovative Security Features
The Dutch National Office for Identity Data (RvIG) unveiled the next generation of Dutch passports and national ID cards at the recent Identity Week conference in Amsterdam. The documents feature the LASINK™ Helios security enhancement from IDEMIA Smart Identity (ISI). The updated documents are scheduled for circulation in Q3 and Q4 2024, with an expected production rate of approximately 4 million documents annually.

LASINK Helios was developed to thwart multiple types of potential attacks on the portrait on secure documents, which remains one of the most important features on ID cards and passports.
It incorporates a full-colour secondary portrait within a diffractive optical variable image device (DOVID), merging IDEMIA’s LASINK™ colour portrait technology with diffractive optical techniques. The secondary portrait validates the main portrait, thereby strengthening the document’s security by confirming the identity of the document holder. The DOVID effects are designed to frustrate various forms of ID fraud while simplifying authentication processes.
