Europe Launches Technical Consultation on EUDI Wallet
The European Commission has opened a public consultation on 12 new Implementing Acts that will define the technical and legal framework for the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet, as established under Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 1. Running from 15 April to 13 May 2025, the consultation focuses on trust services, interoperability, and security standards essential for the deployment of the EUDI Wallet across Member States.
Previous consultations addressed core functionalities and the establishment of a pan-European trust ecosystem. This latest initiative builds on that foundation, seeking input from stakeholders to finalise critical components necessary for secure and interoperable digital identity solutions.
Under the regulatory timeline, Member States must provide citizens, residents, and businesses with access to EUDI Wallets by November 2026. Regulated sectors, including banking and financial services, will be required to accept the EUDI Wallet by December 2027. The wallet will introduce cryptographically verifiable credentials designed to streamline identity verification, enhance security, and reduce reliance on traditional document-based methods.
