I Couldn’t Have Done It Without You

At the High Security Printing™ (HSP) Latin America conference (9-11 June 2025), an exclusive physical ‘event passport’ was introduced for participants. Embedded with sustainable security features, it functioned both as an interactive engagement tool and as a sustainable document prototype demonstrating real-world principles of secure document lifecycle management.

Participants at the conference’s tradeshow were issued with the passports and had them stamped at each exhibitor stand they visited. This seemingly playful idea underscored a serious point: producing the passport required cooperation and planning amongst all of the manufacturing partners if it was to result in a durable document with high sustainability credentials.

The special edition passport incorporated several eco-conscious features, including:

  • Security paper made from recycled cotton fibres, repurposed from the waste generated in Brazilian banknote production – a solution developed by Casa da Moeda do Brasil and BP Security through the Tran$forma Initiative.
  • UV security thread (TRILUMIC®) from Hueck Folien, produced using recycled PET and aluminium.
  • Mineral oil-free inks supplied by SICPA, minimising environmental impact.
