Covestro Marks 10 Years of Innovation in Secure Document Materials

Covestro, the German materials science company spun out from Bayer in 2015, is celebrating a decade of innovation and growth with a focus on sustainable solutions for secure documents. Over the past ten years, the company has established itself as a key supplier of high-performance polymer films used in passports, ID cards, and driving licences.

At the core of its identity-document portfolio are Makrofol® ID polycarbonate films and Platilon® ID thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films, which are engineered to deliver durability, optical clarity, and tamper-resistance. These materials are used in datapages, card slabs and hinges, where long-term stability and laser engravability are critical to ensuring authenticity and protecting against counterfeiting.

What distinguishes Covestro’s recent developments is the integration of sustainability. As part of its CQ (Circular Quality) portfolio, Covestro has introduced film grades containing renewable and recycled content.
